On Tuesday night of this week, ‘Cork’s Favourite Song’ was revealed in the City Library and while John Spillane had no less than 10 songs initially nominated from a total of 84, it was The Frank And Walters’ ‘After All’ that won the day.
There too was the 84 year old singing legend Sean Ó Sé who performed two of the shortlisted songs ‘The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee’ (originally intended for Billa O’Connell who was unable to be present) and Sean’s well known hit, ‘An Poc Ar Buile’.
The good news is that both John and Sean will perform on stage in Kilworth on this Saturday night (February 1st) at The Village Arts Centre at 8pm when some of these great songs will be performed.
On the night, we can expect to be treated to a verse or two of Spillane’s song for Kilworth which he promised to deliver on his next visit – and that’s this Saturday night, so be first to hear it.
Tickets should have been priced at €20 but because of a mix up in printing, they are on sale at €15 each and are available from The Avondhu offices in Fermoy (025-32227) and Mitchelstown (025-24451), from Cotter’s Bar, Kilworth (025-43615) or by calling 087-6492514.
