In September 2018 at the Ards International Guitar Festival in Co Down, Brendan and Declan Murphy (The 4 Of Us) were part of the line-up. However, little did they brothers realise that before the night was through, they would be the recipients of a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award itself was a very fitting one – in the form of twin guitars, one left-handed, one right handed and Brendan was quick to point out, that awards like this either mean you’re dead or have only a few years left in your career. Well, rest assured, the lads are very much alive.
They played a gig in The Village Arts Centre, Kilworth a few years ago and while there were a few empty seats there on the night, Brendan had the crowd on their feet and what a memorable gig that was.
Now The Four of Us will return to Kilworth for another acoustic gig on Thursday, March 26th and is sure to be another uplifting and memorable performance. Watch this space for the date, which is yet to be confirmed.
Brendan’s trademark banter with the audience gets everyone settle in and we can expect to hear numbers from Sugar Island, an autobiographical album centred on family life and growing up in and around Newry in the 70’s and 80’s.
Sugar Island is one of their best albums to date and ‘Bird’s Eye View’ and ‘Home Town on the Border’ are great numbers giving Declan plenty of opportunity to warm up his percussive and energetic guitar style.
And of course there’s ‘Mary’ which had everyone on their feet and singing along – just expect more of the same when they come to Kilworth on March 26th.
Tickets €20 will be on sale from the usual outlets – The Avondhu offices in Fermoy (025-32227) and Mitchelstown (025-24451), from Cotter’s Bar, Kilworth (025-43615) or from 087-6492514.
