Brideview Drama ‘Bailegangaire’

February 8 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Brideview Drama in Tallow have put in Trojan work over the past number of months to bring Tom Murphy’s play ‘Bailegangaire’ to life and are now ready to take it to the stage in Tallow Community Centre, opening on Friday, January 31.

The well known group will bring this production to competitions all around the country as part of the 3-Act Amateur Drama Festival Circuit with the hopes of earning a place in the RTE All-Ireland Drama Festival for the third year in a row.

‘Bailegangaire’ tells the story of bed-ridden grandmother Mommo and her two granddaughters, who are all trapped by the secrets of their past. Mommo, drifts in an out of lucidity, telling a story she has told to her grandchildren over and over again throughout their lives, but she somehow never manages to reach the end. This never-ending burden of Mommo creates a tension in the household that sets the granddaughters’ lives into a spin which is a mixed up mess of love and hate, guilt and sorrow.

An intriguing tale of how the unspoken past seeps into the future, unless someone is willing to face the truth and finish the story for once and for all.

Helen Aherne, who won the Best Supporting Actress at the All-Ireland final last year for her performance as Madge in ‘Philadelphia Here I Come’, takes on the mammoth role of Mommo while Emma Walsh (Aunt Lizzy in ‘Philadelphia, Here I Come’) plays her granddaughter Mary and they are joined by Ruth Hayes from Youghal, who plays Mommo’s second granddaughter, Dolly.

The play opens in Tallow Community Centre on Friday, January 31 at 8pm and will be performed again on Wednesday, February 5. They will then head to Ballymacarbry on Friday Feb 7, Village Arts Centre in Kilworth on Saturday, Feb 8 and Aghada Community Centre on Feb 15 before returning to Tallow for another run.

Tickets will be available on the door for the Tallow performances.
